The story behind Coozus...

…and how a cup of coffee helped shape it

It started on a sunny day…

Spring 2023 brought a mix of beautiful days and sudden rain showers. Those first rays of sunshine — the ones everyone looks forward to — felt too valuable to miss. Yet time and again, I ran into the same frustration: after a long day at work, not being able to relax outside because the cushions were still inside. Or worse — cushions left out and soaked from the rain.
Couldn’t this be done differently?

We wanted to make outdoor living more enjoyable and effortless — allowing you to fully embrace those relaxed, cozy moments.

A search for simplicity

Outdoor furniture that was not only functional, but also beautiful, durable, and truly designed for outdoor living. A lounge where cushions could remain outside — even in the rain — without compromising on comfort or aesthetics.

After an unsuccessful search, I asked myself:
“Does this really not exist?”
Together with my sister, we decided to take matters into our own hands.
Coozus was born.

COOZUS /KOH-zus/

Inspired by cozy — warmth and comfort.

While technology, design, and durability are essential to our product, they are not the end goal.
Our mission is simple: to make outdoor living more enjoyable. Easier, more beautiful, more effortless, so you can spend more time enjoying it.

From idea to design

Within a month, the first sketches were on paper.
What began as a personal frustration quickly evolved into a viable concept.

We partnered with trusted organizations such as VLAIO, collaborated with Made — a design and innovation studio based in Antwerp — and engaged Belgian companies with the expertise needed to bring the idea to life.

This journey was not just about creating a beautiful design, nor purely about engineering a functional product.
It became an intensive process of finding the right balance between function, comfort, aesthetics, and durability, without compromise.

Prototypes, testing, and persistence

2024 became a year of testing.
We built prototypes, explored different mechanisms, and challenged ourselves to find a real solution for protecting cushions from rain, dirt, and morning dew.

Should the backrest move, the seat, or both?
How large should the protective element be?
What impact does it have on comfort?

We refused to settle for half solutions.
No lounge that keeps cushions dry but sacrifices comfort.
No complex systems that replace one inconvenience with another.

Our benchmark was simple:
To step outside in the morning, coffee in hand, tablet under your arm — and in one single movement, sit down in a clean, dry seat.
No preparation. No compromises.

Did we succeed?
Come and experience it for yourself.

Coozus @Antwerp Design Week 2025

2025: our first real Coozus

At the beginning of 2025, everything came together.
We finalized materials, refined the design down to the smallest detail, and presented our work to the public for the first time during Antwerp Design Week.

What we showed was not a compromise — but a lounge chair that effortlessly combines comfort, functionality, and robust design.

We were proud of what we created.
And the confirmation we received made one thing clear: this is only the beginning.

Today, we aim to introduce our Model 1.1 to as many people as possible — to design lovers and outdoor enthusiasts alike, whether in a garden or on a city terrace.

There is much more to come.
Stay close, follow our journey, and be part of what’s next.
